About Radar (Chat)

What this product is building.

Radar is for anyone who needs to stay connected and informed when networks fail: hikers, campers, festival-goers, travellers, preppers, volunteers and families planning for emergencies. It also suits privacy-minded users who want chat without phone numbers, and anyone who enjoys live maps of nearby aircraft, boats, earthquakes and local points of interest. Android 8.0+.

How founders can use Radar (Chat)

I use Radar daily to see live planes, boats, earthquakes and floods around me on one map, and to message people nearby over Bluetooth, WiFi or mesh with no signal. It's handy at conferences, festivals and remote sites where mobile data is patchy, and for keeping a team in touch off-grid. A web relay takes over when peers are out of range, so nobody is left out.

Radar (Chat) vs alternatives

WhatsApp, Signal and Telegram need internet or mobile data. Radar also works with none, using Bluetooth, WiFi and mesh, and falls back to web relay when peers are out of range. No phone number is required. Life360 tracks family through the cloud, while Radar shares location directly with nearby peers. It adds offline maps, hazard alerts and aircraft and boat views.
